Assistant Professor English/Director of Writing
The English Department at Linfield College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in English/Director of Writing to begin fall semester of 2018. Candidates must demonstrate a primary expertise in the field of rhetoric and the ability to train colleagues from various disciplines to be effective teachers of writing. They also must demonstrate a secondary expertise in American literature. The position has an annual five-course load with two courses reassigned for directing the college-wide writing program. Review of applications will begin immediately and close on October 16, 2017.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching duties will include an annual, first-year Inquiry Seminar, and alternating annual responsibility for an American literature survey and a course in the American novel.
Candidates with a strong background in rhetoric and secondary expertise in any of the following American literatures are encouraged to apply: pre-1820; African American; Latinx; Asian American; Native American; Arab American; Pacific Islander; LGBTQ; Disability; or other underrepresented discourses.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in rhetoric, English, or related field required by July 1, 2018.
- Candidates must demonstrate excellent teaching and the ability to integrate an active scholarly agenda with effective administration and classroom practice.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and students in a small college setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
