Assistant Professor Theatre Arts

Linfield College, a liberal arts institution, invites applications for a new, full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts to begin in August 2017. This faculty member will focus primarily on the scholarly facet of the theatre discipline. A PhD in theatre completed by August 2017 is preferred; an MFA in dramaturgy may be considered. This colleague also will contribute to current efforts and expand the potential to offer discussions of theatre within diverse communities in both curricular, including general education courses, and production activities. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in theatre arts, annually directing one main stage production, and engaging in scholarly activity. Theatre courses (to be taught) may include: theatre within diverse communities, theatre history, dramatic literature and dramaturgy, and other courses in areas of theatre expertise. RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  • Teach undergraduate theatre arts courses, including theatre within diverse communities, theatre history, dramatic literature and dramaturgy
  • Teach other courses in areas of theatre expertise
  • Annually direct one main stage production
  • Contribute to the Theatre Program's diversity initiatives in curricular and production offerings
  • Assist students as advisor in academic and career planning
  • Maintain research program or otherwise pursue professional achievement beyond teaching and service
  • Perform other responsibilities as appropriate for a faculty member at a liberal arts college, including assisting with student recruitment

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:           

Ph.D. in Theatre by August 2017 preferred; MFA in Dramaturgy may be considered

  • Successful teaching and directing at the collegiate level
  • A collaborative approach to a general theatre education that values development of students with a broad range of knowledge and skills in theatre performance, production, and scholarship.
  • Effective mentoring of undergraduate students including first-generation students
  • A commitment to experiential learning and dynamic pedagogical practice
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Multi-discipline approaches to scholarly and creative projects
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Dedication to institutional and community service
