Assistant Professor of Economics

The Department of Economics invites applications to fill a full-time, tenure-track position. Position will begin July 1, 2022. Rank is at the Assistant Professor level. Qualified applicants will demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching in a baccalaureate liberal arts setting; a serious interest in and potential for quality scholarship; enthusiasm for service in the university and surrounding community; and have the ability to offer a range of undergraduate economics courses, including core theory courses. Candidates with interest and ability to teach health economics, public economics, monetary economics, and/or international economics, as well as courses using R or Python, are especially encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in economics, applied economics, or agricultural economics should be completed by the time of appointment.

The position will support majors in economics as well as provide service courses to majors in business, data science, environmental studies, international relations, and sports management. Applicants should desire to be part of a committed team of faculty which works together to deliver a high-quality education and experience to our students. Candidates need to demonstrate the ability to support a mature undergraduate program in economics and allied field.

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate economics courses, including the introductory course and at least one course in the the upper division theory core (Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and/or Econometrics). Interest and ability to teach applied courses in health economics, labor econoimics, public economics, monetary economics, and/or international economics is desirable. Ability to teach courses using R or Python is desirable.
  • Assist and mentor students as faculty advisor in academic and career planning
  • Actively engage in scholarly research and professional development
  • Perform other responsibilities of a faculty member at a liberal arts university, including helping with student recruitment and retention, and participation in faculty governance


  • Ph.D. in Economics by July 1, 2022 (ABD considered)
  • University teaching experience, preferably beyond the teaching assistant level
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching that values the undergraduate liberal arts experience emphasizing critical thinking, community engagement, and faculty-student collaboration
  • Evidence of and commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring of diverse students (e.g. new majority students, first generation students, students of color, transfer students, Pell-eligible students)
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, students, and staff, and a demonstrated capacity to serve the department and the larger university community


  • Demonstrated willingness or ability to support student-led collaborative research.
  • Ability to teach health economics, public economics, monetary economics, and/or international economics, as well as courses using R or Python.
