Assistant Professor of Music

Linfield University, a comprehensive university that combines a strong emphasis on the liberal arts with a commitment to professional and interdisciplinary programs, invites highly qualified applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music beginning Fall 2022. The position supports an updated curriculum that currently serves majors, minors, and non-majors. Duties include teaching courses in the core music curriculum, specifically courses in Western music history, world music and/or popular music, Musicianship I and II, music research and writing courses, and an applied instrumental area on Linfield's McMinnville campus , along with other music courses as determined by the Department Chair . Responsibilities also include student advising, as well as service to the department and the University. Required qualifications include: 1) doctoral degree in music with demonstrated professional achievement ; 2) evidence of successful college/university teaching; 3) experience working with undergraduate students inside and outside of the classroom; 4) evidence of successful performing experience in both orchestra, world music, and chamber music; and, 5) demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion . Highly qualified candidates will also be able to demonstrate: 1) evidence of practicing student-centered pedagogy for both majors and non-majors; 2) successful scholarship and/ or professional performance experience in a variety of genres; and, 3) ability to work collaboratively with constituents across campus.
