Assistant or Associate Professor of Education in Special Education and Special Education Endorsement Program Coordinator

The Education Department of Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Education in Special Education who is committed to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the Special Education Endorsement Program as well as a variety of other teacher education courses, based on the candidate's experience and expertise. This position also includes Special Education Program Coordinator responsibilities of working with students, staff, faculty and community partners including school districts. In addition to scholarly credentials, the ideal candidate must have enthusiasm for teaching, advising, supervising, and mentoring undergraduate preservice teachers and graduate in-service teachers.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a wide range of undergraduate and graduate education courses, including K-12 Special Education endorsement courses with dual delivery (face to face and remote) instructional methods.
  • Serve as a Special Education Program Coordinator who works with students, staff, faculty and community partners, including school districts.
  • Assist and mentor students as faculty advisor in academic and career planning.
  • Perform the normal responsibilities of a faculty member at a liberal arts college, including helping with student recruitment.

Primary Qualifications:

Preference will be given to individuals with four or more of the following (in the order of preference):

  • Masters in Education, Ph. D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field by July 1, 2021.
  • Special Education certification/endorsement.
  • Expertise in Special Education and Elementary Education.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in grades preK-12.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in a Special Education setting.
  • A strong record of scholarship in teacher education or related field.
  • Teaching and/or research and/or service that demonstrates a commitment to diversity as defined by the Linfield University diversity statement: Linfield University honors human rights and academic freedom, celebrates diverse cultures, fosters a climate of mutual respect, and promotes an inclusive environment that affirms the value of all persons.
  • Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations or students of color.
  • Commitment to implementing culturally responsive pedagogy and curricula.

Desired Qualifications:

  • D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field by July 1, 2021.
  • Evidence of expertise in Teacher Education courses or related experience.
  • Teaching experience in US public schools.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and colleagues and capacity to serve the department and larger university community.
  • Evidence of at least three years of excellent teaching at the post-secondary college level in the US and/or abroad beyond the teaching assistant level.
