One-Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts in Scenic and Lighting Design

Linfield College, an undergraduate liberal arts institution, invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts in Scenic and Lighting Design to begin August 1, 2018. An MFA in scenic design completed by August 1, 2018 required. Experience in scenic and lighting design required. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in scenic design and related topics, designing scenery for three main stage productions, and designing lighting for four main stage productions. Linfield College enrolls a diverse student body; 60% of students are New Majority students composed of students of color, first-generation, transfer, and Pell-eligible students. All applicants must demonstrate a promise of excellence in working with students from diverse backgrounds. Review of applications will begin after the closing day of June 18, 2018.

 

Responsibilities:         

  • Teach undergraduate theatre courses in scenic design, fundamentals of theatre design and drawing, and potentially one additional course.
  • Design scenery for three productions, including serving as scenic artist.
  • Design lighting for four productions, including serving as master electrician.
  • Perform other responsibilities as appropriate for a visiting faculty member at a liberal arts college.

 

Qualifications: 

  • MFA in Scenic Design by August 1, 2018
  • Successful teaching at the collegiate level, including theatre design courses;
  • Success in scenic and lighting design at the collegiate level;
  • A collaborative approach to a general theatre education that values development of students with a broad range of knowledge and skills in theatre performance, production, and scholarship;
  • Ability to work with a wide range of culturally diverse students;
  • A commitment to experiential learning and dynamic pedagogical practice;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills that demonstrate collaborative engagement with students and colleagues;
  • Breadth of educational background, with experience that values critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and interdisciplinary work preferred.
