Student Teaching Supervisors

The Education Department is recruiting for part-time Student Teaching Supervisors for elementary and/or secondary student teachers starting August 2021. We are looking for energetic, qualified, and dedicated teacher leaders to observe, support, and give feedback to part-time and full-time student teachers during their field experiences. Supervisors play a critical role in the development of excellent pre-service teachers. We seek a diverse pool of university supervisors who agree to serve for one academic semester. University Supervisor positions are filled on an as needed basis dependent upon the teacher candidates enrolled in student teaching and the specific endorsements they seek. Qualifications:

  • Seeking supervisors with teaching experience in secondary Math, Social Studies and/or English Language Arts.
  • Minimum of three years of preK-12 teaching experience.
  • Master's degree in education, or related field experience.
  • Multilingual asset is desired.

(1) The Education Preparation Program designs, implements, and evaluates curriculum and provides experiences for candidates to acquire and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions necessary to help all students learn equitably.

(a) Assessments indicate that candidates can demonstrate and apply proficiencies related to cultural competency and equitable student learning.

(b) Experiences provided for candidates include working with diverse populations, including higher education and PreK12 school faculty, candidates, and students in PreK12 schools.

(c) A cohort of candidates and faculty from diverse groups informs the unit's curriculum, pedagogy, and field experiences in culturally inclusive, meaningful ways.

(d) Diverse faculty and peers assist candidates in addressing teaching and learning from multiple perspectives and different life experiences. These experiences provide for different voices in the professional development and work of the education profession.

(e) The greater range of cultural backgrounds and experiences among faculty and candidates enhances understanding of cultural competency, inclusion and equity for all students in the classroom.

Work is performed in a pre-school environment. Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Constant talking, seeing, hearing, sitting and standing. Frequent walking, bending, stooping. Daily climbing stairs, exposure to outdoor weather, lifting, pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
