Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Non-Tenure Track

The Linfield University Department of Biology seeks applicants for a one-year position as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology beginning on July 1, 2023. This is an open position and there is an ongoing need to fill this line. Renewal is based on instructor performance. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced instructor to teach Introduction to Microbiology, an overview of microbiology for pre-nursing students and other pre-health professionals. The VAP will also teach the labs for this course which a focus on basic microbiological skills and share a common syllabus with the microbiology course for majors. The lecture sections are capped at 24 students and the labs are capped at 12 students. There is an experienced staff member dedicated to helping prepare, run, and break-down labs. Depending on enrollments, we may ask that the candidate teach Principles of Biology, our introductory course for biology and allied health majors. Principles of Biology is a two-semester sequence with a lecture section size of approximately 24 students. The person filling this position will work closely with other department faculty and will use a common syllabus. Additionally, this person may instruct sections of the Principles of Biology laboratory associated with lecture. The lab is designed and is managed by experienced staff who set up and break down the lab each week. Additionally, student teaching assistants grade most of the laboratory assignments and are managed by staff. A Ph.D. and relevant teaching experience are preferred, though candidates who are ABD will be considered. Evidence of a solid instructional record is required. There are no research or service responsibilities associated with this position, but space and supplies in our new research facilities may be available. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare, teach, and assess assigned courses.
  • Hold Regular office hours.
  • Attend Weekly Department meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or ABD in Biology
  • Ability to teach Microbiology and Microbiology lab at the introductory level to pre-nursing students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Biology
